Overview

Objective

This program enhances the understanding of fundamental laws of nature, behaviour of chemical and physical systems, and develops abilities for mathematical and statistical analysis of physical and chemical systems. Our program aims –

  • To impart knowledge on basics of mathematical and physical sciences.
  • To facilitate the understanding of behavior of physical systems through the laws and principles of Physics.
  • To facilitate the understanding of chemical systems and their reaction chemistry.
  • To facilitate the understanding of mathematical and statistical methods for scientific and business analysis.
  • To model, simulate and analyze the behavior of physical systems. 
  • To train students to conduct scientific experiments and document scientific investigations.
  • To use commercial software tools for scientific simulations and documentation.
  • To educate on professional ethics, economics, social sciences, interpersonal and communication skills relevant to professional practice.
  • To provide a general perspective on lifelong learning and opportunities for a career in industry, scientific organization, education, business and commerce.

Highlights

  • Proctoral System

    Under the Proctoral System, every student is assigned a faculty member as a Proctor or a mentor. 

    These mentors offer guidance, support and encouragement to students, helping them as they progress along their academic journey. From the choice of electives to their academic performance, from attendance to meeting their credit requirements, students can approach these mentors with any and every query. 

    Proctors also interact with parents/​guardians and keep them updated on the progress of students.

    To ensure that they reap the benefits of the Proctoral System, students are advised to be in regular contact with their Proctors. 

  • Innovation Centre

    At the Innovation Centre, students team up with faculty members to bring their innovative ideas to life. 

    Ideas are assessed based on their relevance to — and impact on — society. These are then translated into working projects that are entered in national and international competitions, and for registration as patents. 

  • Industry Visit

    As part of the curriculum, students visit relevant institutions and industries to gain exposure to the actual workings of various department at organizations. Students will need to prepare a report of their observations and recommendations which will help them prepare them for joining industry when they graduate. 

  • Partner Facilities

    The Ramaiah Group was established in 1962 and the teaching hospital for medical students founded in 1985. This hospital caters to various income levels with a wide range of casualties. Students from FPS get exposure to live cases which helps train them for the future.

Area of Specialization

We offer a 3 year program and students can change their specialisation in the 2nd year for Electronics, and in the 3rd year for PCMS respectively.

Teaching and Assessment

During each semester, students’ performance is assessed through Continuous Evaluation (CE) and a Semester End Examination (SEE). CE and SEE weightages carry equal weightage.

Students are awarded grades based on the marks scored.

  • Ability to apply fundamental knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Statistics, Computer Science and Electronics to solve real life problems in their chosen domain.

Eligibility

Indian Nationals

  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized State or Central Board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
