International Symposium on "Futuristic Trends in Sustainable Development"

  • Date

    9:00 AM onwards

International Symposium on Futuristic Trends in Sustainable Development” is being organized by Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Chemistry in Association with Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
Sustainable development is to meet the human progress and simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems to continue providing the natural resources on which the economy and society depend. As per UNESCO, Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Engineering and Technology play a vital role in Sustainable development. As the effects of climate change and global warming become more apparent, innovative engineering solutions promote sustainable change and development.

Technology changes are essential to cater to the needs and wants of the society. In the field of Civil Engineering and Chemical sciences, technologies can have a long-lasting impact on our future and humanity’s progress. Science and Engineering play vital role and are able to address the issues related to sustainable development within the context of modern environmental challenges developing techniques must be carefully nurtured to ensure a better quality of life for all.

Few of the Civil Engineering trends believed to contribute to a resilient and more sustainable world are Waste Management, Sustainable Construction Materials, Sustainable Environmental technologies, Zero Energy Buildings, Water Engineering for sustainable development and Planning, operation, design, management, and policy of sustainable transportation systems.

Chemical Sciences play a vital role in providing solutions to environmental issues. Today nanomaterials are being extensively researched for environmental remediation such as water and wastewater treatment, air pollution, soil pollution, etc. Some of the examples include TiO2 based nanocomposites, ZnO based nanocomposites, and such semiconducting metal oxides are used in environmental remediation techniques such as Photocatalysis, Electrocatalysis, adsorption, etc. On other had polymeric materials, in particular, polymers and their composites derived from bio sources have shown potential to remediate threats to the environment. These materials are being used in the form of adsorbents, membranes, etc. in treating the environmental pollution.

THEME OF THE SYMPOSIUM
The various themes of the Symposium proposed are:
1. Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Water and Waste management
2. Sustainable structural systems, building design and structural materials
3. Sustainable transport and urban planning, construction materials and technologies
4. Recent trends in Traffic Safety and Importance of Road Safety audit in India.
5. Materials for Sustainable Environmental Remediation
